Leith's method, dissected

Prue Leith's method (she prefers to create her tool using picture wire attached to two corks) is simple, but some soft or crumbly cheeses have tough rinds that can pose a challenge. For those soft cheeses with hard rinds, it's best to use a knife to make a small incision in the rind before sliding your wire underneath.
While some may be tempted to start their wire or thread at the top of the block of soft cheese and cut downwards, Leith advises against switching directions. This is because once you pull the tool down, it will hit the counter or cutting board, preventing you from completing the cut.
If all else fails, a sharp knife can be used. As a host of one of Netflix's top cooking shows, Leith suggests running the blade under hot water to prevent the soft cheese from sticking. Make sure to dry it off before cutting, and it will slice through effortlessly.
