How to save your sweets

Most Halloween candy can be enjoyed for a longer period than you might think. The shelf life of candy varies by type, but many kinds can remain safe to eat at room temperature for at least six months if stored properly. Unopened candy corn can last up to nine months, while milk and white chocolate are good for eight to ten months. Jelly beans and hard candy can be consumed for as long as a year, and well-sealed dark chocolate can last for up to two years.
To extend the life of your Halloween treats even further, consider freezing them. To freeze Halloween candy effectively, place it in a moisture- and vapor-proof container or freezer bag. Leaving candy uncovered can lead to it absorbing odors from other items in the freezer, which is not ideal for snacking. It's best to avoid freezing candies that contain fruits or nuts. Freezing is particularly effective for preserving milk and white chocolate, hard candy, and gummies.
