More simple swaps to save your nacho fiasco

While food blogger Dan Whalen has a deep appreciation for authentic nachos—having even authored a book dedicated to them—his adaptable approach to recipe creation allows for plenty of creative experimentation. "It's essential to honor the origins and original purpose of nachos, but it's also perfectly fine to have some fun with it afterward! (That's pretty much my philosophy for all foods)," he shares. With this mindset, Whalen offers a wealth of unexpected ideas for serving loaded nachos. "In my nacho book, I experimented with frozen waffles, gnocchi, biscuits, naan, scallion pancakes, pita, potato chips, pierogi, and even chicken parmesan as 'chips' for nachos," he reveals.
But that's just the beginning. For his eggs benedict nachos, Whalen opts for toasted English muffins. For "latkchos," he cleverly uses latkes as a foundation topped with sour cream and scallions. If you enjoy the added potato flavor that both tater tots and fried potato latkes provide, consider using thinly sliced and roasted russet potatoes or even sweet potatoes for a delightful twist on this beloved snack.
