The start of Shake Shack

Shake Shack originated from the vision of former Eleven Madison Park owner Daniel Meyer and current Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti. The food cart was established in collaboration with the Madison Square Park Conservancy, also led by Meyer, with the aim of revitalizing Madison Square Park, which had fallen into neglect at the time.
Both the initiative and the cart achieved great success. As the cart gained popularity, Meyer recognized the opportunity to grow the concept into a larger, more permanent establishment. Thus, the first Shake Shack restaurant was opened, appropriately located in the very park where the cart first operated.
Initially, this first physical location was intended to be a unique standalone restaurant in New York City. However, Shake Shack quickly exceeded expectations, proving to be highly profitable and evolving into a chain. Today, Shake Shack boasts over 300 locations across the United States, along with an additional 185 locations internationally.
