Tips for making better Jell-O shots

Setting aside the tools, crafting the perfect Jell-O shot recipe is a bit more intricate than merely combining that classic boxed mix with your chosen alcohol. Getting the right ratios is essential to achieve a proper set texture rather than a gooey mess. As with all alcoholic beverages, moderation is vital. "It's crucial not to add too much alcohol, as it can prevent the gelatin from setting properly, leading to a host of other problems," noted bartender and recipe creator Kamaron Lockwood in Chowhound's guide to making Jell-O shots. She added, "You might return in four hours to find your Jell-O shots still liquid and runny."
Instead of overwhelming your mixture with your preferred spirit, simply replace half a cup of the necessary water with vodka, rum, tequila, or another liquor. Start by preparing your Jell-O as per the usual instructions, dissolving the powder in boiling water. Then, mix that half cup of alcohol with half a cup of cold water. Afterward, pour the alcohol-infused Jell-O into a pancake batter dispenser for easy portioning into small plastic cups or shot molds of your choice, all while keeping things tidy. Refrigerate for about four hours, and they’ll be ready to serve.
