New Zealand's Kiwiburger is more elusive than a McRib

The Kiwiburger was created by Bryan Old, a franchisee of McDonald's in New Zealand, and was initially exclusive to his restaurants. While it didn't make our list of McDonald's burgers worldwide, the Kiwiburger gained significant popularity across New Zealand after being added to the national menu in 1991. It resonated with local preferences by resembling the traditional New Zealand hamburgers that were common before McDonald's entered the market.
Originally intended to be a permanent fixture on the New Zealand menu, the Kiwiburger was phased out in 2004 due to the expense of beetroot, an ingredient not featured in any other menu items. Nevertheless, the Kiwiburger made brief returns in 2007, 2009, and 2011, primarily as a limited-time offering (similar to the McRib in the United States) rather than a permanent menu item. It was removed again in 2021, only to reappear in late 2023 for the summer menu in New Zealand. Despite its frequent revivals, the duration of the Kiwiburger's availability remains uncertain, so if you get the opportunity to try this unique burger, channel your inner flightless Kiwi bird and seize the moment!
