Pepsi Is Bringing Back Its Legendary Pepsi Challenge To Kick Off Super Bowl Weekend

Pepsi is reviving its iconic Pepsi Challenge to celebrate Super Bowl weekend, aiming to engage consumers in a fun and interactive taste test experience. The original Pepsi Challenge, first introduced in the 1970s, was a groundbreaking marketing campaign that encouraged participants to taste-test Pepsi against its competitors, often resulting in surprising preferences for the cola giant. This relaunch is designed to harness the spirit of the original challenge while tapping into the excitement of one of America's biggest sporting events. During Super Bowl weekend, Pepsi will set up various tasting stations at key locations, inviting fans to participate and share their experiences on social media, thus amplifying the event's reach. This event not only aims to evoke nostalgia among those familiar with the original challenge but also introduces the concept to a new generation of consumers. By aligning the challenge with the Super Bowl, Pepsi seeks to leverage the high energy and mass engagement of the event, creating a memorable experience that reinforces its brand presence. The initiative underscores Pepsi's continued commitment to innovation and consumer interaction, blending tradition with modern marketing tactics to captivate audiences and spark conversations around its products.

How the new Pepsi Challenge will work

The company has announced that the new Pepsi Challenge will feature a flavor competition between Coke Zero and Pepsi Zero Sugar, taking place over Super Bowl weekend from February 6 to 9, 2025. This event will be held at the temporarily renamed Chips and Sips Quarter in New Orleans, located at 500 Decatur Street. The pop-up experience in the French Quarter will offer complimentary food and drink options featuring Frito-Lay products such as Tostitos, Lay's, Doritos, and Cheetos, all of which are owned by PepsiCo. Participants in the Pepsi Challenge will receive two cups, marked only as Cup A and Cup B, containing the two competing zero-sugar colas. Those who choose Pepsi Zero Sugar as their favorite will enjoy brief celebrations, while everyone will receive free bottles of Pepsi Zero Sugar, regardless of their selection.

Following the initial event, the contest will travel to various cities in March 2025, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami, New York City, and Baltimore.
