Bulk soda can last for months when stored properly

If it's more convenient for you to grab soda at Costco while you're there, the good news is that soda has a long shelf life, even if you don't consume it frequently. While it may start to lose carbonation and flavor after six to nine months—regular soda tends to last longer than diet soda—that still gives you plenty of time to enjoy it. However, maintaining its freshness for that duration depends on proper storage.
To ensure the best quality, soda should be kept in a cool, dark area away from direct sunlight. If it gets too warm for an extended period, it can lose carbonation more quickly, resulting in a flat taste. Additionally, exposure to light can diminish its flavor. Ideally, soda should be stored in the refrigerator, but with large cases from Costco, that can be challenging. If that's not feasible, a dark pantry, cabinet, or dry basement can work as alternatives. Just be sure to keep it away from pests and chemicals that could contaminate the cans.
That said, if you only indulge in soda occasionally, you might be better off purchasing it from another store, even if picking up a case at Costco is more convenient. While soda does have a relatively long shelf life, the size of the cases can take up significant space in your pantry or fridge.
