Preserving your perfect cake slices

This method isn't new. In fact, bakeries have been using it for quite some time to provide dessert options by the slice for their customers.
After slicing your cake, take a couple of pieces of parchment paper and gently press them against the exposed cut edges of the slices. This step is crucial for retaining the moisture that keeps your dessert tender, so ensure you create a good seal. Then, place the slices in the freezer overnight. You may notice that the frosting freezes quickly, but it's important to allow the cake itself to freeze completely, especially if you've put effort into creating intricate designs or beautiful decorations (like those made with a spoon and a piping bag).
Next, wrap your slices tightly in plastic wrap, and you can count on them being ready whenever a craving hits — for up to about 9 months or even a year. When you're ready to enjoy a piece, simply place it on a plate and let it thaw on the counter (not in the fridge) for about 2 hours. With this straightforward technique, whether you've made a simple boxed mix cake taste divine or perfected a red velvet cake, you'll never have to resist a cake craving again.
