History of Blanton's and why it's so special

One of the key factors that contributes to Blanton's uniqueness is its rich history. This premium bourbon is named after Colonel Albert Bacon Blanton, who was born in 1881 and began his career at what is now Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, at the tender age of 16. He eventually rose through the ranks to become the company's president in 1921. During his presidency, he established his own private reserve, which was aged in the esteemed Warehouse H of the distillery. Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon made its debut in 1984, named in honor of the Colonel, and it was the first single barrel bourbon ever sold commercially.
Another factor contributing to the bourbon's high price and exclusivity is its aging process, which occurs in a single barrel and is believed to last between 6 to 8 years. While many bourbons are crafted from a blend of various barrels to create a specific flavor profile, single-barrel bourbon is drawn from just one barrel, resulting in a unique and distinctive taste for each bottle.
In addition to its exceptional distilling quality, Blanton's boasts a sought-after flavor profile described as "sweet, with hints of citrus and oak," along with notes of vanilla, caramel, and nutmeg. Coupled with an elegantly designed bottle featuring a distinctive shape and a collectible horse and jockey stopper, it’s clear why this bourbon commands a premium price. (There are eight different designs of Blanton's bottle stoppers, each showcasing a jockey and horse in a unique pose).
Costco locations that sell it, according to Redditors

Blanton's is not a common item at Costco, and it isn't consistently available at the stores that do carry it. So, if you come across it and you're a bourbon enthusiast, consider yourself fortunate. A Redditor on the Costco subreddit shared that they snagged the last bottle of Blanton's at the Burbank location for $56.89, which many agree is an excellent price. One commenter mentioned they've been searching for years to find a bottle in Texas, only to come across one priced at $220. Another Redditor living near the Buffalo Trace Distillery noted that the bottle is "extremely hard to find at any liquor store here, and even challenging to locate at the distillery."
In the whiskey subreddit, a Redditor shared a photo of their Blanton's find, which they discovered at the Northridge, California Costco, according to the comments. At that time, bottles of this special bourbon were available on Costco's shelves for $46.99, with a limit of one per customer. Another lucky Redditor in the D.C. whiskey subreddit found the premium bourbon for $54.99, also with a one-bottle limit.
While many agree that these prices are fantastic compared to what you might encounter at a liquor store, some Redditors expressed the view that Blanton's is generally overpriced for the quality of the bourbon. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic deal if you manage to find it at your local Costco. If you prefer wine, be sure to check out some of the best and worst bargain wines available at Costco.
